FAQS

Bride and Groom on beach

We have put together some of the most frequently asked questions to assist you with your decision to marry abroad with Olympic. If you do not the answer to any question you may have please feel free to speak to our Wedding Consultants.

Is it possible for you to arrange just the wedding?

While we would be delighted to organise just your wedding in one of our destinations, it would be better for you to arrange both the holiday and the wedding with us for a number of reasons.

  • You can be confident both your travel arrangements and wedding is handled and coordinated by the same company as our UK weddings team works hand in hand with our resort team
  • We offer a discount if both holiday and wedding are booked
  • You can be reassured your flight-inclusive package as a whole is financially Atol protected.

What paperwork do we need to take?

There are a number of documents that you will need to take with you in order to get married abroad. Please see section on legal documents and requirements, but do not hesitate to give us a call to clarify any of the issues you are unsure of.

Will our wedding be legally recognised in the UK?

Your civil ceremony marriage, in all our destinations, will be recognised by British Law.

How early must we book our wedding?

We can confirm your wedding date and venue 2 to 3 years in advance, and we recommend that you book your wedding as soon as possible in order to avoid disappointment as some of our most popular venues book up a couple of years in advance. Don't worry if the holiday element isn't available yet, when the flights and accommodation get released we will get in contact with you to let you know and to add to your booking.

For any spontaneous couples for weddings in Cyprus and Greece we require a minimum least FOUR months notice, this is to allow time to ensure the paperwork can all be obtained and translated in time. If you are working to time constraints please get in contact with our weddings team and we can advise more specifically on your requirements, as we will do everything we can to help plan your dream day.

Can I get married overseas if I have been divorced?

Yes, as long as you can provide legal proof, i.e. a decree absolute. The only exception to this is Catholic weddings in Cyprus.

We would like to renew our vows, can you help?

Yes of course we can. Renewal of Vows (currently available in Cyprus, Rhodes, Zante and Santorini, Malta) are becoming increasingly popular.

What name must be used for the booking of the bride-to be?

As the name on the booking must be the same as the name on the passport, the bride-to-be should use her maiden name for both journeys.

Do we need witnesses?

Yes you will need 2 witnesses over 18 years old. If you are travelling alone and require us to arrange witnesses we can arrange this for you. Please let us know prior to your departure.

How should we pack our wedding outfits/extra luggage allowance?

We suggest that you pack your dresses and suits in a strong waterproof box or suitcase which can be placed in the aircraft hold. It is at the airline's discretion whether they allow you an extra luggage allowance for your wedding attire. We will give you the airline contact details so that you can make your enquiries.

Do we have to stay in the same resort/hotel that we wish to get married in?

For Cyprus there is a lot of flexibility with where you can stay. For example you can choose to stay in any standard of accommodation and marry in a church or town hall. In some cases you can stay in one hotel and marry in another one as a non resident (please ask us for a list within the resort of your choice). There are also occasions where you can stay in one resort and marry in another, for example couples staying in Protaras and Ayia Napa may choose to marry in the Terra Santa Catholic church in Larnaca. Greece is more restrictive as many town halls require couples to stay within their district.

Do our guests have to say in the same hotel as us?

Guests do not have to stay in the same hotel however some hotels will require a pass to be purchased to enter. Each hotel is different and has different terms please check this before booking.

Can you organise the wedding reception for us?

We will be delighted to assist you with organising your reception according to your requirements and budget. Receptions can normally take place in the hotel you are staying, a local restaurant or taverna or even on a boat. However, there maybe a few hotels that require you to have a reception there if you choose to marry in their grounds. The arrangements can be started in the UK but finalised and largely paid in the resort (we will let you know if any venues require a deposit before you go).

How do I go about arranging extras?

We have many suppliers in resorts and have competitive prices for anything that you require. Please send in any inspiration to our weddings team and a list of any extras you require and we will arrange accordingly for you.

Will a separate room be provided for changing into for our wedding outfits or for the groom to sleep in the night before the wedding?

Usually bride or groom will go to get ready in another family or friends room. In some hotels separate dressing areas may be available at an additional charge.

What will happen when we arrive in resort?

You will meet with your wedding co-ordinator after your arrival. At this time they will run through the day with you and ensure you are all set! At this time they will go over your legal documents and make any arrangements for town hall visits if required. Of course any last minute changes or extras you may require you can also discuss at this time.

Can I change the date of my wedding?

Each venue will have different terms. For a change, please contact our weddings team and we will advise on any additional charges and deposits for a change of date. Please remember each year prices can increase and to change to another year we will expect cost increases on fees, extras and packages.

What happens if I need to cancel?

If you decide to cancel once your wedding is booked the deposit is non-refundable. If extras have been booked and things are in place there may be additional costs on cancelling.  Our weddings team can assist with this.

Other than the package what else do we need to pay for?

When budgeting for your big day some things to factor into your budget as well as your holiday and wedding package are; food/drink, entertainment, décor, legal documents, transport, hair & make up (some packages may offer some of these items, each package will list all included items).

The decor shown on photos is this included?

Any photos you see from our couples they may include décor that has been added extra by the clients. Anything that is included will be stated on the package list. For extras or anything you would like speak to our weddings team who can confirm pricing for you.

If I book a wedding in a hotel can I use my All Inclusive allowance?

No - a wedding is a separate set up which includes waiters, an exclusive menu etc and is not part of the standard hotel. Menus for the wedding will be an additional cost even if you are staying on an AI basis. Drinks vary from hotel to hotel. Each package is clearly shown what is included. Please check this before booking.
