Description
A beautiful natural harbour created by two tree-covered headlands jutting into the blue-green Ionian Sea, is the lovely setting for the Ilios Hotel, in Lakka, Paxos.
Excellent, friendly service is the aim of the family running the hotel, the traditionally-furnished, spacious rooms have air conditioning, a fridge, shower, satellite TV and free wifi.
Lakka is a charming, picturesque village in the north of Paxos, eight kilometres from the island’s capital Gaios. Sheltered by the hills and popular as a destination for fishermen, yacht sailors and owners of other sea-going craft, it's a fantastic setting for your Greek island holiday. The architecture around its narrow streets shows Venetian influence, and there is more Italian taste in the cuisine offered by some of the restaurants, alongside the traditional Greek dining places, while music bars offer plenty of lively nightlife. Bus services connect Lakka with the capital and the seaside village of Logos.
Paxos and its neighbouring island, Antipaxos, are renowned for their lovely beaches, including Avlaki and pebbled Voutoumi, another in a cove setting bordered by rocks and with shallow water suitable for paddling children as well as snorkelling. Most of the islands’ beaches are secluded, and not all have sunbeds and parasols, so if you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of tourists, a holiday to Paxos could be exactly what you're looking for. A family friendly environment.
Among the fascinating heritage sites are Ypapanti Church at Rantatika, which offers more stunning views from the tower, and the Christian Basilica of Ayia Marina.
