This is where Goan tourism first began in the resort of Calangute, which was a popular haunt for hippies. Although they have long gone, it has become a well-known resort offering fantastic beaches, a small tourist market and a great choice of small bars and restaurants. Just next door is the quieter resort of Candolim which also has a selection of beach shacks and shops and a great choice of eateries. To the north of Calangute is the resort of Baga which is also quite lively with plenty of shops and restaurants.
