We’ve got another fantastic holiday reading recommendation – this time from Olympic Holidays’ friend Jonathan Williams.
Jonathan, from London, says that Hotel Babylon, by Imogen Edwards-Jones is a ‘fantastic inside look into how a hotel works’.
Imogen, who spends her time between London and Ibiza with her TV producer husband Kenton Allen and two children, has also generously given Olympic Holidays an overview of her bestseller.
She said: “Hotel Babylon started when I met the manager of a five-star hotel; he had been in the business 25 years, and the initial idea was to write his biography, but his stories were so interesting I decided to pack them into a 24-hour story."
“It was around the time of the TV series 24, starring Kiefer Sutherland as counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer and each season of 24 episodes, covered 24 hours in Bauer's life."
“I put all the story ideas into 24 hours within a fictitious hotel – every juicy, fantastical story – so the reader learned how a hotel worked within that time frame."
“It went from there with various sequels because I got feedback from readers who gave me their stories. “They include Beach Babylon, which might particularly appeal to Olympic Holidays’ readers – it’s about island resorts which are a microcosm of the world – all nationalities brought together, contrasting rich and poor. There’s also Pop Babylon, Wedding Babylon, Fashion Babylon and so on.”
“At the moment I am writing the sequel to The Witches of St Petersburg – it takes the story on to the Russian Revolution and how the royal family escaped from St Petersburg to Crimea and were rescued from the beaches by the British. It was an amazing rescue!”
Imogen, who has sold more than 1.5 million books, has also visited many of the Greek islands in Olympic Holidays’ portfolio including Skopelos and Skiathos as well as Lesbos, Mykonos and Santorini while Inter-Railing as a teenager.
