The weather during the months of May, June, September and October are perfect in Kefalonia. The temperatures are a little cooler (27 C in June compared to 29 C in July and August), prices are a little lower, and there aren’t as many people on holiday during these months either.

Airports/flights: We fly from numerous UK airports to Kefalonia Airport. Flights take around 3 hours, 30 minutes from Gatwick.

Bus: There are local buses connecting the main villages. You can get to almost any point on Kefalonia - even remote beaches, villages, and monasteries - by KTEL bus.

Taxi: For those who don't enjoy driving twisting mountain roads, taxis are the best alternative, but you should negotiate the fare prior to commencing the journey.

Car: An excellent way of getting around during Kefalonia holidays, car hire gives you complete flexibility.

Boat: There are boat connections with the neighbouring islands (Corfu, Ithaca, Lefkada) as well as the mainland (Patras, Igoumenitsa and Kyllini) from Argostoli, Sami and Poros.

Argostoli

Standing on the far end of a natural bay surrounded by mountains and forests is Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia, a modern cosmopolitan town with beautifully paved streets and promenade. Plateia Valianou (Vallianos Square) is a large square lined with bars, restaurants, cafes and shops and during the evenings, the square comes to life with a mixture of the friendly locals and tourists alike and the town is also home to a number of Sea turtles that surround the fishing boats each morning whilst the fishermen dock and clear out their nets from the previous night. Argostoli is a vibrant town and highly recommended for a day or evening visit.

Fiskardo

The traditional fishing village of Fiskardo in the north of Kefalonia is one of the most picturesque and beautiful villages of all Greece and is the only village on Kefalonia that has so many of the original Venetian buildings still in use today. A visit to Fiskardo would not be complete without a meal on the harbour side, watching the boats come and go throughout the day and evening. Fiskardo leaves you feeling very relaxed and in awe of its beauty.

The Venetian Castle of Assos

The Venetian Castle of Assos was built in the 16th century by the Venetians to protect the village from pirate attacks and the remaining parts include a vivid Venetian fortification identity and the Venetian Lion of Saint Mark over the gates. Within the ruins, you will find the small church of Agios Markos and the house of the Venetian High Commissioner. A little lower down the hill there is another chapel dedicated to Prophet Elias, which also contains a beautiful wooden carved iconostasis. The strategic location of the Castle allowed supervising the whole sea area and from there you can get a beautiful view of the bay. Till 1956, the Castle of Assos was used as a place for political prisoners, who lived there and cultivated vineyards.
